In his presidential address delivered on the occasion of the 22nd Anniversary Meeting of the Association of Engineers, held on the 27th February, 1941, at the Chamber Hall, 2, Royal Exchange Place, Calcutta. Dr. B. N. Dey, D.Sc. (Glas.), F.R.S.A. (London), M.A.E., M.I.E. (Ind.), said,

Gentlemen,

I thank you for electing me your President. I do not know if your choice has been a wise one in view of the fact that my preoccupation with the City Corporation work, particularly that connected with the various Committees leaves me little time to devote to the Association. However, I will try my best to discharge the duties devolving on a President.

Abstract

The problem of the distribution of the Bending Moments on reinforced concrete slabs, has been declared by many present-day Reinforced Concrete Engineers as indeterminate and they have been content so far to accept the well-known formulae of Grashof and Rankine, or the French Government Rules on Reinforced Concrete.
